The Basics About
An Aluminum Boat
Yes, owning a boat
made of aluminum has become the material of choice for the commercial
boating industry, serious sport fishermen and hobbyist boaters who know
quality when they see it.
To compare, the differences between boats that are made of steel,
fiberglass or aluminum materials.
1. An aluminum
boat is more durable and stronger than boats made of fiberglass or
steel. This is because aluminum boats can survive being beached
without major damage to it’s’ hull.
2. Aluminum boats can withstand more abuse from driftwood and rocks,
will not chip or crack, which is what usually happens with fiberglass
boats.
3. Another bonus is because aluminum is lighter, being 30% to 40%
lighter than a steel or fiberglass boat of the same dimensions, it
needs only smaller engines, so there is less fuel consumption, and no
need to sacrifice speed.
4. For boaters who are budget conscious, it helps even more to know
that aluminum boats are easier to repair, usually its’ just a can of
spray paint, because aluminum tends to bend rather than to fracture.
However, before you decide to ride on in your aluminum boat of choice
into the sunset and leaving people sprayed with seawater, here are a
few reminders:
Make sure construction wise, that your aluminum boat is welded not
riveted, and it should be washed on the outside with jet spray inside
and out after use. Lastly, just to be extra cautious, don’t charge the
boats’ batteries while it is afloat on the waters.
Keep these in mind, and you’ll definitely enjoy many hours tooling
around your aluminum boat......
